General Info

Tucked along Old Country Road, Kinben Sushi at 1163 Old Country Rd, Plainview, NY 11803, United States feels like the kind of Japanese restaurant locals quietly recommend to friends. The moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere struck a nice balance-casual enough for a relaxed dinner, yet polished enough to feel like a proper dining experience. It’s the type of place where the menu invites exploration, and where regulars already seem to know exactly what they’re coming back for.

One of the first things that stood out during my visit was how thoughtfully the menu is arranged. If you enjoy variety, the Sushi Deluxe is an easy starting point. The platter showcases a mix of fresh sushi selections that highlight balance and presentation. Each piece felt carefully prepared, and the fish tasted clean and fresh, which is exactly what you hope for when visiting a sushi-focused restaurant. It’s the kind of dish that gives you a solid overview of what the kitchen does well.

For something with a bit more personality, the Hot Mama Roll definitely lives up to its name. The roll has a bold flavor profile that stands out from more traditional options on the menu. It’s the kind of item that makes the dining experience more fun, especially when sharing small plates with friends. Speaking of small plates, Kinben Sushi offers several options that work perfectly for sampling different flavors without committing to a full entrée right away.

Another highlight is the Uni Hokkaido, which feels like a treat for anyone who appreciates premium seafood. The texture is rich and delicate, and it’s served in a way that lets the ingredient speak for itself. Dishes like this show the restaurant’s focus on quality and careful preparation, something that becomes clear as you move through the menu.

Not everything here revolves around sushi either. The Teriyaki Salmon is a comforting alternative, especially for guests who want something warm and satisfying. The salmon arrives glazed with a flavorful teriyaki sauce, creating a balanced combination of savory and slightly sweet notes. It’s a reliable choice and pairs nicely with other dishes if you’re sharing the table.

Service options also make the experience convenient. Kinben Sushi offers delivery, which is great for nights when you want restaurant-quality Japanese food at home. Inside the restaurant, the relaxed setting works well for both quick lunches and longer dinners. The menu also includes vegetarian options, ensuring that different dietary preferences are accommodated.

Payment is straightforward too, with debit cards and NFC mobile payments accepted, which makes checkout quick and easy. These small details might seem minor, but they contribute to a smooth dining experience overall.

From the variety of dishes to the welcoming setting, Kinben Sushi feels like a neighborhood spot that focuses on consistent flavors and approachable dining. Whether you’re browsing the menu for sushi classics, sharing small plates, or ordering delivery after reading glowing reviews, the experience feels simple, enjoyable, and worth revisiting.

What customers say?

“ Fresh and delicious sushi but not a good value. The $33 chirashi had a very atypical presentation and looked like sashimi bento with over-vinegared rice. The sashimi smelled and tasted fresh. However, I wish the portion can be bigger. ”

“ There are 3 Sushi restaurants in Plainview including this one. This is the newest one. Now I know 1% of you are sushi freaks and KNOW the real deal. The fish here is very fresh and the staff are beyond nice!!! I ate hamachi kama, fish eggs in every color & Australian Oysters which were delicious but pricey @ $8 each. ENJOY! ”

“ Last night was our 4th time on Kinben sushi, which has now become our new local sushi spot. We usually have to travel 20 minutes for sushi so we are very excited to have a this local spot to go with our 2 young kids who love sushi! The sushi is super fresh and amazing. My 6 year old daughter loves the sushi nori tacos! The waitress heard it was her birthday, and went out of her way to make her tempura fried Oreos and get a a candle. They were amazing. I highly recommend this sushi spot! ”

“ Having been here twice, I can say they do not hesitate to provide the freshest stock of fish available! Often times I'm told they sell out fast given how busy they get. They specialize in multiple styles of sushi, and their sushi tacos are mouthwatering! Their sushi rolls are extravagant yet equally as delicious and their sashimi never misses! They pride themselves in their work and it shows in their displays of sushi and how it's perceived by their guests, of which I thoroughly enjoyed! 10/10 would absolutely come by again! ”

“ Had the sushi roll lunch here. The rolls are pretty well made, large, with just the right amount of rice. Unfortunately, for $13, the roll selection is somewhat poor, dominated by rolls like Spicy Yellowtail, Spicy Tuna, Spicy White Tuna, and Spicy Salmon, which don't contain actual pieces of fish, but a paste like substance. My friend had a roll that contained pieces of salmon, and the fish did not look very fresh. The Salmon skin roll that I had was pretty good, but that's not raw fish. So if you're coming here for the sushi, you'll probably enjoy it more if you stick to the ones without raw fish. Otherwise, the place is clean, the service is quick and polite, there's plenty of parking. ”

“ I lived in Japan and know quality fish. Kinben is one of the best sushi spots on LI and the chef/owner is the best! If you have not tried Kinben and live in Syosset, Plainview, Bethpage or Hicksville, you need to try Kinben. You will not be sorry! ”

- Calton Chan -

“ Hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in Long Island! Kinben always has the freshest sushi/sashimi and the omakase is on point (as pictured). The staff at Kinben are extremely friendly and welcoming and the prices are comparable for the Plainview area. I’ve been going to Kinben for date night for the past two years. With all of the quality sushi Kinben offers, I wouldn’t choose any other sushi restaurant over this one. I am looking fwd to many omakase nights for years to come . ”

“ This was Sushi-tacular! Top notch, fresh and so authentic. Small and quaint. .a must go! The Omasake is off the charts!! Waitress knew her stuff, was adorable and so attentive. So glad I tried this restaurant. I will be back very soon! ”
